The second most performed opera at the Arena will open the 2022 Festival: don’t miss the show, discover all the details!
The historic production of Carmen which, in 1995, was the occasion of the Arena debut of Franco Zeffirelli, is returning “Près des remparts de Séville” and to the heart of Verona. Georges Bizet’s masterpiece will officially inaugurate the 99th Opera Festival on 17th June 2022 and will be performed on a total of 9 evenings until the end of August. In the setting of a breathtaking Seville, be enchanted by the timeless fascination of Carmen, the rebellious gypsy who warns her suitors with these words: “Si tu ne m’aimes pas, je t’aime/Si je t’aime, prends garde à toi!” (If you don’t love me, I love you/If I love you, you’d better watch out!)

The unmissable appointment with Verdi’s Aida returns: discover all the info on the most popular opera of the Arena’s 2022 Opera Festival.
“Celeste Aida, forma divina” and the absolute top opera of the Arena. A symbol of the Opera Festival, the opera by Giuseppe Verdi will be staged on 11 dates, from 18th June to 4th September 2022. Ancient Egypt as imagined by Franco Zeffirelli (and enriched by the costumes of Anna Anni) will enable you to discover the opera most frequently performed at the Verona amphitheatre. From 1913 to the present day, each performance of Aida adds a piece to the legend of the Arena: are you ready to become part of History?

“Va, pensiero, sull’ali dorate” and relight the flames of the first masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi. Thanks to this spectacular production by Arnaud Bernard (inspired by the uprisings of Italy’s Risorgimento), Nabucco will take over the Arena stage from 25th June to 3rd September 2022, revealing its full epic and musical power in 8 performances. “Libiamo, libiamo ne’ lieti calici” in honour of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, the world’s most performed opera, which is returning to the Arena with the last sumptuous 19th century production created by Franco Zeffirelli with the refined costumes of Maurizio Millenotti. In spite of an unfavourable destiny, Violetta and Alfredo will love each another from 2nd July to 1st September 2022 (a total of 8 performances) in the name of that sentiment that ”is the pulse/Of the whole universe/Mysterious and proud/Torture and delight to the heart!"

An Italian opera classic returns to the Arena di Verona for the 2022 Festival: an unmissable dramma lirico in a magic setting.
”Nessun dorma” because Turandot (the last opera by Giacomo Puccini set ”in Beijing in the days of fables”) is returning with Franco Zeffirelli’s fantastic production, enriched by the costumes of Academy Award winner Emi Wada. From 7th August to 2nd September 2022, the magnificence of the Forbidden City will unfold before your very eyes for 6 performances which, just like the stars, will make you tremble “with love and hope”.

Roberto Bolle & Friends
An unmissable evening with the best protagonists of international dance: Roberto Bolle & his Friends will perform in an exceptional evening at the Opera Festival 2022. Don’t miss it!
Created in 2008 with the aim of taking ballet to unusual locations, the Roberto Bolle & Friends Gala arrived at the Arena in 2012 and has now become a highly popular regular appointment. Performing alongside Roberto Bolle, the first dancer to be Étoile at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala and Principal Dancer of the American Ballet Theatre of New York at the same time, will be top ballet stars from the most prestigious companies.

Carmina Burana by Carl Orff
The Arena di Verona pays tribute to Ezio Bosso with the monumental symphonic and choral concert of Carmina Burana on 12th August, exactly three years after his Arena concert, for a single extraordinary date.
Opening and closing with the renowned plea ”O Fortuna”, Carl Orff’s monumental scenic cantata will pay tribute to Ezio Bosso, who conducted it at the Arena in 2019. The twenty four compositions (in Latin, High German and Old Provençal) are taken from a collection of Medieval poetry (carmina), passed down via the Codex Latinus Monacensis 4660 or Codex Buranus, which led to the name Carmina Burana.

Domingo in Verdi Opera Night
Plácido Domingo will perform in a gala in scenic form with pieces from Verdi’s most famous operas.
Three years from the event Plácido Domingo 50 – Arena Anniversary Night, the legendary Madrid singer will be the protagonist of a new opera gala in scenic form dedicated to celebrating the genius of Giuseppe Verdi, whose Don Carlo (along with Puccini’s Turandot) marked the arrival of Domingo at the Arena (and in Italy) in the summer of 1969.
